RichardHi, stumbled across your site whilst looking for duratec midgets. I have a 170 bhp K series in my car at the moment, but I've after more power, which led me to the Duratec. Looks like you're getting on well with your conversion, do you have more photo's?

I have a few questions, which you might be about to answer, before commiting to another engine change:

Does the sump fit between the chassis rails?

Will you need to bulge the bonnet?

Does the front pulley fit ok behind the crossmember supporting the steering rack?

What bellhousing are you using?

I could go on for several pages I think. Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

Richard

bradRichard, as you've probably figured out by now, I've been absent for a while. Just found your post tonight and will try and answer your questions.

The sump fits fine between the rails, but yes I'll need to bulge the bonnet. The DOHC is very tall.

The pulley fits OK, although I have notched the crossmember to facilitate ease of installation/removal.

The bellhousing is a custom one made by a guy who runs "Quad4Rods". It bolted up perfectly. (www.quad4rods.com)

So, I'll try and stay connected through the winter and look forward to future posts.

RichardHi Brad, thanks for posting back.

The photo of the front of the engine bay is very helpful. What determined the height of the engine? The gearbox or the bottom pulley fitting above the front cross member? What gearbox are you using? I’m keen not to have a bonnet bulge, if I removed the crossmember and put the strength back somewhere else do you think I could get the engine low enough, dry sump obviously.

My car is LHD, looks like things might be quite tight with the exhaust and steering column.

Keep us up to date on the progress.

PS. Those wheels are huge.
